HVAC Engineer
Our client currently has a requirement for an experienced HVAC Engineer to provide engineering support and technical leadership within the Capital Projects Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the design, installation, commissioning and qualification of HVAC systems across multiple projects within a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
The role will be based on site and will involve close collaboration with engineering, construction, validation, production and maintenance teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule and in accordance with all quality and regulatory requirements.
Job Role and Responsibilities
Project Management
Support the delivery of multiple capital projects from concept through to completion.
Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules and technical specifications.
Coordinate activities between internal stakeholders, engineering teams and external contractors.
Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to project management teams.
Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews and risk assessments.
Technical Responsibilities
Design, review and optimise HVAC systems for pharmaceutical and biotechnology facilities.
Support the specification and selection of equipment, including air-handling units (AHUs), chillers, pumps, ductwork and filtration systems.
Review engineering drawings, calculations and technical documentation.
Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and GMP requirements.
Support commissioning, qualification and validation activities.
Troubleshoot existing systems and identify opportunities for performance improvements.
Coordinate building management system (BMS) integration activities.
Construction Support
Supervise contractors during installation and commissioning activities.
Ensure adherence to all health, safety and environmental requirements.
Review contractor documentation, including RAMS, schedules and commissioning plans.
Support system start-up, testing and handover activities.
Quality and Compliance
Ensure compliance with GMP, ASHRAE, ISPE and site-specific engineering standards.
Participate in deviation investigations and change control activities.
Support qualification protocols, including installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ) and performance qualification (PQ).
Experience and Qualifications
Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum of five years’ experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences industry.
Previous experience delivering capital projects within regulated manufacturing environments.
Experience with cleanrooms, air-handling systems, chilled water systems and building management systems.
Working knowledge of commissioning, validation and qualification processes.
Strong understanding of energy efficiency and sustainability principles.
